Common Lawn Issues

The best defense against weeds is a thick, healthy lawn. Weeds grow where they have room to emerge, so the denser your lawn, the less chance it will be invaded by weeds. Our program will eliminate these pests over time by thickening the turf and chemically eradicating them. Let Calvin Lawn Care provide you with a thick, green, weed-free lawn.

Weeds

The most common turf damaging insect is the white grub. Grubs can do a lot of damage in a short period. Our grub prevention application is the best way to assure you a grub-free lawn. Other common turf damaging insects like sod webworm, chinch bugs, and aphids can be controlled by our surface insecticide application.

Insects

Turfgrass disease outbreaks are caused by Mother Nature, as well as heavy thatch, grass species, and certain watering and mowing practices. For maximum turf health, avoid evening watering and mow at a height of 3-3 ½”. We also offer fungicide applications to help you control diseases that occur in your lawn.

Disease

Cool season grasses in Central Indiana require 1-2 inches of water per week. In times of drought, it’s essential to water your lawn to keep it looking its best. If there’s no rain or water, turf grass shuts down as a natural way to protect itself and becomes brown. Your lawn is not dead; it will respond once rainfall comes, or you water your lawn. Keep in mind that watering should be deep and infrequent. As a general rule, water 30-45 minutes in each area about 2-3 times a week.
